New school building project starts!
Following long negotiations, and some setbacks along the way, the construction of the new school building canfinally start.
Due to the increasing construction costs in Kenya we exceeded our available budget. This meant that we had to re-negotiate with several construction companies in Kenya and to redesign the building so that some significant cost savings could be made without reducing the overall quality of the design. With great support from the local architect Beglin Woods who designed the school at no cost, and the fantastic support of the local Kenyan construction company, Cementers, who were able to meet our cost targets, we will finally be able to start construction in the next couple of weeks.
The building costs are being generously covered by the German charity,“Ein Herz für Kinder”. In addition the organisation“Welthungerhilfe” is contributing the complete water supply system.
We plan to have the school completed by September 2012 when and celebrate the opening of a new school for the Shangilia children.
Thank you everyone for your support and assistance in making this whole project possible!
